Lord Shiva is the destroyer.

Lord Shiva is the destroyer. Not only the destroyer of creation when the time comes, but also the destroyer of ignorance and the destroyer of misery. It is he who destroys what is no longer good or needed in order to pave the way for rebirth. He can destroy bad karma when you are devoted to him and he can grant you long life. He crushes ignorance beneath his feet. Usually Shiva is depicted as extremely ferocious and destructive in nature. However, Shiva is known for his benevolence at the same time. Even the slightest of devotion from the devotees makes HIM extremely happy. He loves his devotees so much that he has granted blessings to people who worshiped him without even realizing it. By chanting of Mula Panchakshri Mantra and Mahamrityunjaya mantra ; performing Abhishek, by offering Bilva patra leaves, Rudraksha, Dhatura flowers and even by remembering him accidentally you can get boons and his blessings. There are innumerable stories in scriptures showing Shivas merciful nature.
A hunter once went for hunting in the forest. At the end of the day, the hunter was not able to find any prey. As the night falls, he got scared with the roar of a tiger. To defend himself from the tiger, He climbed a tree by a lake. He did not realise that the tree he had climbed was a Bilva tree. Buried at the foot of the tree was a Shivalingam. During the night, to keep himself awake, he kept throwing the Bilva leaves on the ground and they fell on the Shivalingam. Without any knowledge the hunter had delighted Shiva by pouring bilva leaves all night. This accidental worship to Lord Shiva was enough to transform the hunter into a compassionate and understanding human being and frees him from his past. Shiva appeared in the morning and granted him boons. The hunter thus attained salvation from the bondage of the material world!! πŸƒπŸŒΏπŸƒ
