देवताओं में भगवान शिव के बाद हनुमान जी ही एक ऐसे देवता हैं, जो अपने भक्तों पर बहुत जल्दी प्रसन्न हो जाते हैं। सच्चे मन से की गई पूजा कभी बेकार नहीं जाती। मंगलवार और शनिवार को बजरंगबली की पूजा की जाती है। इन्हें बजरंगबली के रूप में जाना जाता है क्योंकि इनका शरीर एक वज्र की तरह था। हनुमान जी पवन-पुत्र के रूप में जाने जाते हैं| वायु अथवा पवन (हवा के देवता) ने हनुमान को पालने मे महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाई थी।. मारुत (संस्कृत: मरुत्) का अर्थ हवा है। नंदन का अर्थ बेटा है। हिंदू पौराणिक कथाओं के अनुसार हनुमान "मारुति" अर्थात "मरुत-नंदन" (हवा का बेटा) हैं।

हनुमान जी को रूद्र अवतार में से एक कहा जाता हैं और रूद्र आंधी-तूफ़ान के देवता कहे जाते हैं . विष्णु पुराण की एक कथा के अनुसार कहा गया हैं कि रूद्र का जन्म भगवान ब्रह्मा की भृकुटी जिसे हम भौहें के बीच का हिस्सा भी कहते हैं से हुआ हैं. एक कथा के अनुसार हनुमान का यह नाम इसलिए पड़ा था क्योंकि एक बार उन्हे इन्द्र के अस्त्र से ठोड़ी में चोट लगी थी और उस चोट से बालक हनुमान मुर्छित हो गए थे. देवताओं के आशीर्वाद से हनुमान की चोट ठीक हुई और उन्हें यह आशीर्वाद दिया गया कि तुम हनुमान के नाम पुरे संसार में जाने जाओगे. हनु का अर्थ ठोड़ी भी होता हैं.

श्री हनुमान अपने बल, बुद्धि और पराक्रम के साथ संगीत के भी ज्ञाता माने जाते है वो भी शास्त्रीय संगीत के. श्री हनुमान को संगीत के 3 आचार्यों में से एक माना जाता हैं. हनुमान के अलावा संगीत के दो आचार्य थे श्रादुल और कहाल हैं. कहा जाता है कि संगीत पारिजात श्री हनुमान के संगीत शास्त्र पर ही आधारित हैं. हनुमान जी एक सेवक के साथ गजब के गायक, नर्तक, वक्ता, नीतिकार और अच्छे राजदूत भी थे. हम सभी को यही ज्ञात है की रामायण वाल्मीकि द्वारा सबसे पहले लिखी गयी थी लेकिन कहते हैं कि श्री हनुमान ने भगवान् के बारे में हर चीज़ पत्थरों पर लिखी थी. जिसे हनुमन्नाटक के नाम से भी जाना जाता हैं.

हनुमान परमेश्वर की भक्ति की सबसे लोकप्रिय अवधारणाओं और भारतीय महाकाव्य रामायण में सबसे महत्वपूर्ण व्यक्तियों में प्रधान हैं। वह सबसे बलवान और बुद्धिमान माने जाते हैं। उनकी सबसे प्रसिद्ध उपलब्धि थी, जैसा कि रामायण में वर्णित है, बंदरों की सेना के अग्रणी के रूप में राजा रावण से लड़ाई। परन्तु कई विद्वानों ने हनुमान जी की जाति वानर बताई है। इसी का जीता जागता उदाहरण है विराट नगर (राजस्थान) में स्थापित पंचखंडपीठ पावन धामस्थित वज्रांग मन्दिर। गोभक्त महात्मा रामचन्द्र वीर ने पुरे हिंदुस्तान में विश्व का सबसे अलग मंदिर स्थापित किया जिसमें हनुमान जी की बिना बन्दर वाले मुख की मूर्ति स्थापित है। महात्मा रामचन्द्र वीर ने हनुमान जी जाति वानर बताई है, शरीर नहीं| उन्होंने कहा है कि सीता माता की खोज करने वाले और वेदों पाठो के ज्ञाता हनुमानजी बन्दर कैसे हो सकते है| उन्होंने लंका को जलाने के लिए वानर का रूप धरा था|

Maruti is a highly popular name used to address Hanumanji. The literal meaning of the word 'Maruti' is the one who is born from 'Marut', meaning air. The other names that suggest Hanuman is the son of Air god include Maruti Nandan (Air god's son), Marutadmaja (the one born from Air), Vayu Putra (Air god's son), and others. There is an interesting story how Vayu or the Air god became Hanuman's father.

Anjana was a heavenly damsel who was serving the gods in heavens. Due to a curse she attained a monkey face. She came to the earth to escape from the spell of the curse and therefore resorted to worshipping Lord Shiva is all devotion and sincerity. Lord Shiva was highly pleased with her devotion and unfolded a divine play to bless her devotee.

In the empire of Ayodhya, King Dasharat performed a huge sacrifice in order to get progeny. When a divine potion emanated from the sacrificial fires, it was divided into three parts and given to his three wives namely Kausalya, Sumitra and Kaikeyi. The portion reserved for the youngest queen Sumitra was snatched away by a kite which carried it to a distant forest where Anjana lived. Lord Shiva directed Vayu, the god of air to divert the course of the potion to the hands of Anjana. During that time, Anjana was amidst her worship and was holding her hands in a cupped position seeking the blessings of Lord Shiva. The vessel with the potion being carried by the kite landed on her hands with the intervention of the god of air (Marut or Vayu).

Anjana deemed it as the divine prasad of Lord Shiva and therefore consumed it with prayers. Thus she conceived Maruti, the son of air god Marut. Thus, Maruti is very special in being born as the result of the divine intervention of Lord Shiva. In a way Maruti is also a brother of Sri Rama as he was born from the same potion from which Sri Rama and his three brothers were born.
