Shaivism is all about knowledge and understanding.

The snake is misunderstood in traditional cultural depictions. It has always been seen as something evil. The question is, what is the nature of a snake? A snake is defensive and territorial. It only reacts when its territory or if it is itself under threat. It only acts based on its nature, as prescribed by its purpose.
Since God created the snake, is it truly evil? Or did god create something evil? If god created something evil, how is god all good?
It is how we interact with nature and how nature interacts with us. What is good and evil is our experience with said interaction. What is good and evil is a personal experience.
In short, we're just reacting to every cause we have, and for every cause we react to, we create a new cause that will have a new reaction.
BUT, knowledge helps us stand back and rethink our action and its reactions. If we are aware that a snake is territorial and defensive, we don't see any reason to kill the snake, but to respect its life and give it space.
The snake charmers are proof of understanding and taming what was misunderstood and feared. Just like fire, it has to be understood.
Shaivism is all about knowledge and understanding. But where Shaivism goes is a lot deeper. It will shake you off your normal programming so that you become open to new discoveries. We have to take away our presets to be more open.
