भगवान विष्णु को ‘दशावतारी’ के नाम से जाना जाता है। ऐसा इसलिए क्योंकि उन्हें 10 अवतार धारण करने वाला बताया गया है। सतयुग से लेकर द्वापर युग तक, भगवान विष्णु ने अब तक 9 अवतार धारण किए हैं और उनका दसवां अवतार कलियुग में ही आएगा। जिसे कल्कि के नाम से जाना जाएगा. सृष्टि के पालनहार श्री हरि ने हर बार एक खास मकसद से ही अवतार धारण किया . ऐसा कहा जाता है कि जब-जब बुराई का घड़ा भरा है, तब-तब उसे तोड़ने के लिए ही विष्णु जी ने अवतार लिया है।
अपने प्रथम अवतार से लेकर नौवें अवतार तक, विष्णु जी हर बार एक विशेष उद्देश्य से ही अवतरित हुए।

श्री विष्णु का चौथा अवतार नृसिंह है . नृसिंह, यानि कि नर और सिंह का अवतार। हिन्दू धर्म में इन्हें भगवान नृसिंह के नाम से जाना जाता है। ये आधे मानव एवं आधे सिंह के रूप में प्रकट हुए थे, इनका सिर एवं धड़ तो मानव का था लेकिन चेहरा एवं पंजे सिंह की तरह थे। विष्णु जी के नृसिंह अवतार भारत में, खासकर दक्षिण भारत में वैष्णव संप्रदाय के लोगों द्वारा एक देवता के रूप में पूजे जाते हैं जो विपत्ति के समय अपने भक्तों की रक्षा के लिए प्रकट होते हैं।

विष्णुपुराण की एक कथा के अनुसार जिस समय असुर संस्कृति शक्तिशाली हो रही थी, उस समय असुर कुल में एक अद्भुत, प्रह्लाद नामक बालक का जन्म हुआ था। उसका पिता, असुर राज हिरण्यकश्यप देवताओं से वरदान प्राप्त कर के निरंकुश हो गया था। उसका आदेश था, कि उसके राज्य में कोई विष्णु की पूजा नही करेगा। परंतु प्रह्लाद विष्णु भक्त था और ईश्वर में उसकी अटूट आस्था थी। इस पर क्रोधित होकर हिरण्यकश्यप ने उसे मृत्यु दंड दिया। हिरण्यकश्यप की बहन, होलिका, जिस को आग से न मरने का वर था, प्रह्लाद को लेकर अग्नि में बैठ गई, परंतु ईश्वर की कृपा से प्रह्लाद को कुछ न हुआ और वह स्वयं भस्म हो गई। अगले दिन भग्वान विष्णु ने नरसिंह अवतार लेकर हिरण्यकश्यप को मार दिया और सृष्टि को उसके अत्याचारों से मुक्ति प्रदान की।

शत्रु को हराने, वीरता हासिल करने के लिए, भय दूर करने के लिए, पुरुषार्थी बनने के लिए, आकस्मिक आक्रमण से बचने के लिए भगवान नृसिंह की आराधना करें। प्रतिदिन 108 बार नरसिंह गायत्री का जप करने से उपरोक्त सभी इच्छाएं पूरी हो जाती हैं।

Shri Vishnu's preserving, restoring, and protecting powers have been manifested in the world in a series of ten earthly incarnations known as avatars. The avatars arrive either to prevent a great evil or to affect good upon the earth. Hinduism teaches that whenever humanity is threatened by extreme social disorder and wickedness, God will descend into the world to restore righteousness, establish cosmic order, and redeem humanity from danger. Time and time again, the various avatars are willing to intervene on humanity's behalf to protect its overall cosmic wellbeing. In every age Lord Vishnu descended on earth, in either animal or human form to preserve the world and mankind from increasing evil. Nine are said to have descended already: three in non-human form, one in hybrid form and five in human form. Shri Vishnu's final avatar is expected to arrive at a time when the earth is at the end of its present cycle, with the purpose of destroying the world and subsequently recreating it.

Narasimha is the fourth avatar of Vishnu, who appeared in ancient times to save the world from an arrogant demon. Narasimha's half-lion, half-man appearance allowed him to circumvent the boon received by the demon king Hiranyakashipu that he could not be killed by any human or animal. Since Narasimha was neither fully animal nor fully human, he was able to slay the demon and save the world.

Narasiṃha is a protector of his devotees in times of danger. Chant his Gayatri Mantra to protect yourself from enemies, problems and all sorts of danger in life. You Should chant it 108 times or one mala daily.
