Somvaar Vrat or Monday Fasting is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Somvaar takes its name from Soma or Chandra. Mondays astrologically known as Moon Days. So, fasting on Mondays will improve the influence of the Moon in your horoscope. Moon represents our mind, our thoughts and emotions. It’s worth having our mind and emotions under control. Fasting on the day is done by many to appease Lord Shiva and get prayers and wishes fulfilled. It is believed that observing Somvaar Vrat will help in getting good husbands. Its very auspicious day of the week for fasting and doing a "little bit extra" for Shiva. Not eating and not cooking during the day gives you extra free time for your spiritual practice (reading, listening, reciting mantras). Somvaar Vrat begins from sunrise on Monday. A single meal is taken on the day after midday or in the evening. Those observing partial fast take fruits or Sabudana Khichadi. Pick a type of fast that suits you. Grains and beans should be avoided on this day. Most people would only eat fruits and dairy products on this day. Some only drinking water, no food at all. It’s all up to you. You can choose your own schedule. In the evening a story related to Somvaar Vrat is listened to or read by those observing the fast. Usually those devotees observing the Vrat visit a Shiva temple in the morning and in the evening. If this is not possible prayers are offered at home. Some wear white color clothes while observing this fast. White flowers are also offered on the Shivalingam. Apart from white flowers, people also offer Bilva leaves on the Shivalingam continuously chanting Om Namah Shivaya. The fast ends on the next day morning after usual prayers and rituals. 🌿🌷🌼🍃🌼🌿🌷🌼🍃🌻🍂🌺🍁🌸🌼
