SHIVAPARVATI

SHIVAPARVATI
The central import of Shiva’s story, is that of love: God created this universe, simply to love and be loved. The central import of Parvati’s life, is to be with Shiva, always. In so doing even through lifetimes, it is She, who establishes the Hindu belief in re-incarnation; for love it is, that can propel us to be re-born; to manifest ourselves just to be with the beloved, once again.

A MIX HE BLEW

A MIX HE BLEW
The earth the sea and the sky
Was a mix He used
put it in the Flame of desire and blew.
Here you are, and yet you gaze
eternally and ask, 'what am I' .

WHEREVER HE GOES, SHAKTI IS ALWAYS THERE!

WHEREVER HE GOES, SHAKTI IS ALWAYS THERE!
Mahadeva Shiva in His Dhyana, can travel to any world in any place, all the while actually remaining in Kailash!
But He can also be going into the future or the ancient past...
All this time, Ma Parvati is always seated in full awareness of Her own Godhood and power, ready to back Him in any circumstance, any adventure.

SILENTLY FROM THE BEGINNING OF TIME

SILENTLY FROM THE BEGINNING OF TIME
Silently
from the beginning of time
the nameless ones
salute the One with endless names
Namah Shivaye,
Aum Namah Shivaye!
My song
just one more drop in the Mystic Sea,
For He,
who ever since He chose
to make waves,
is loved by a million gatherings of drops
like you, like me.

AWAKE TO THE KNOWING OF WHO HE IS

AWAKE TO THE KNOWING OF WHO HE IS
Shiva sleeps on a perilous ledge on a mountain top,
and we are scared, but we forget:
The Yogi never sleeps.
He dreams, and knows too, the deep dreamless state called sleep
but He is always awake.
This is not about the opening of the eyelids
but the knowing in every bone and muscle,
every vein and every breath the knowing
of who He is.
Shiva the lord, Mahadev.
the One we love.

THE DREAMER

THE DREAMER
In His dream,
they are all awake.
But, as He awakens,
slowly, they fade.
Where is everyone? “Where is everyone”, He shouts.
The woods are there, lovely, dark and deep,
of course, He knows whose woods are these.
Then where is His mate?
He starts to wander,
Is this a game? Where is she?
come! Appear! Does she dare disappear?
come back, children’s mother
He trembles with furiousity
come back, or I go wild
trembling rage slips in to
frenzied flight
He’s besides himself now
hurling nothings in the air,
spinning like a top,
hissing like a snake
letting down His hair
It is TANDAVA
there is a scare
He falls,
Lo, at her feet,
exiting the trance now,
“Where were you? “He fumbles.
“I was here, watering your woods”,
softly she says, stroking His hair
“While you fell asleep again”

SHIVA PARVATI WEDDING

SHIVA PARVATI WEDDING
As the congregation was moving into the palace, suddenly, two of Parvati’s friends Jaya and Vijaya lunged forward in front of Shiva and said, “Stop! You cannot go any further!”
Everyone was a bit stunned. The roaring laughter of the Shiv ganas came to a sudden halt. Even Himavat’s ministers and sons-in-law looked at the girls with consternation. Himavat himself was about to reprimand them, when the girls spoke again, “You cannot go forward unless you have satisfied our demand. We hear you are a poet; you have been singing poems for Parvati, so we are told!” they giggled.
Shiva smiled, joining in their little game.

TEACH ME MY OWN WISDOM

TEACH ME MY OWN WISDOM
Teach me my own wisdom said Shiva .
And then He realised, this was the timeless cycle :
Shiva teaching Shiva His own wisdom .

SHIVA

SHIVA
He is the One who existed even before the world began.
He is the One who has been prayed to, even when He was unseen.
And ever since the very first time He chose to make His presence known, Shiva has been loved by millions.
Records about Him from ancient folklore are very interesting;
He is the perfection of opposites:
Supreme spiritual Guru, but warrior Chieftain,
Ascetic, but perfect husband,
Mendicant, but householder,
Master of yogic stillness, but King of dance;
Shiva is the fountainhead where paradox reconciles.
In the Hindu pantheon of Gods, He is called the destroyer,
And yet, known by the beautiful symbol of creation, the Shivlinga.

In the swirl of cosmic play, Shiva and Parvati sway— One heart, one rhythm, one divine way.

In the swirl of cosmic play,
Shiva and Parvati sway—
One heart, one rhythm, one divine way.

WHEN SHIVA TESTED PARVATI'S TAPASYA

WHEN SHIVA TESTED PARVATI'S TAPASYA
“O Parvati! Dainty princess… till when will you be doing this for the One? We all know you have the signs of a great yogini, despite being born the most royal princess. Till when will you subject yourself to such arduous tapasya? And why exactly are you imploring to Shiva?”
Parvati saw an enigmatic sadhu, dressed in ochre robes, replete with a kamandalu, dhyana danda, and rudraksha beads clinging all over his body. He had a white beard which was flowing freely in the wind, but despite this he looked mysteriously young and had an imposingly virile aura.
“Why? Why, because He is my love; why, because He is my life. Why, you ask… because He is my very soul!” said Parvati, and then added a little sharply, “And who, may I ask, are you to enquire this from me, venerable Sadhu ji?”
“Ah, Shiva, that vagabond! He has no work, He has no real followers, no Kingdom, no land, no riches at all. Why would a dainty princess like you want to even call Him a soulmate? Why would you make the same mistake as Sati?”
