On the basis of ancient holy books, When Ravan , the step younger brother of Kuberji had stolen the golden town and all the wealth, then Kuberji did Tpasya of Lord Shankar in the village Kanvan, which was later known as Karnali near Reva (Narmada) River, By this tapasya, Shivji blessed him and appoint him Lord of Wealth (treasures) of Yex (Dev) & Raxas (Danav) and also elected him Lokpak of North Director (Dwarpal) , Since here Shivji gave him wealth Status so he called as Kuber Bhandari. Here at karnali a swaymbhu Shiva Ling has created.
Ravan cant' bear all these and took away pushpak viman and run behind kuberji to kill him. Kuberji again want to Shivji and ask for protect him by Ravan, Shivji told him that you and Ravan both are my devotees, and ask him to perform aradhna of maa Ambji , In the same place (Karnali) Kuberji was blessed by maa Ambaji and here kuberji got protect from Ravana. So Karnali has special krupa drusti of Shivji and Maa Jagdamba. We also call Kuberji as Kuber Dada as we feel safe & protected near our grandfather. In the epics of Ramayana & Mahabharata there is mention about kuberji & the importance of place of Karnali.
Hanumanji did Tapsaya near Karnali to get mukti/sharp from Brahma Hatya Lord Rama also did Tapasya and gave these place the name of Rameshwaram
