THE DANCE DIVINE

THE DANCE DIVINE
A beautiful painting of Shiv and Parvati in dance.
We are familiar with the Dance of Shiva as Nataraja, the cosmic dancer. But when shiva and Parvati dance together, it takes on a new dimension:
This is the dance of partnership between the transcendent and the manifest,
the timeless and the born ,
the formless and the formed,
the infinite and its lovelorn.
The Shaivite understands all of life, each creation, each pulsation to be
the dance of Shiva and His Shakti supreme.
Shiva does the robust Tandav ,whilst she responds with the gentle lasya. This is so much like the Ocean and its wave. God, the almighty creates the world in One Gigantic sweep, and his consort, Nature , responds for a rippling time like the wave; a time we call Earth Life.
Such is the beauty of the Divine dance , that it goes on till the two remain not two! the two have become one, and it is known that the world is not different from its own creator. This is called So Hum!
In this picture ,the artist hints that Shiva Himself gently leads parvati into this perfection by holding her hand. But then ,we see parvati's own hand also up in the Abhaya Mudra, betokening blessings: She has always been aware of her own Godliness as the supreme shakti, and so suggesting that this is a magical play, and that between these two, there is really no teacher of the dance here, only the dance remains.
Aum Namah Shivaye.
