According to our Hindu religion, there are certain things that you should not keep at home. These things bring negative energy and bad luck to you and your home. According to Vaastu Shastra, not just position but also the damaged or broken idols of deities in any form should not be kept at home. These things kept in the house also affect the flow of energy and positivity in the house. Keeping broken photo frames or idols in the house attracts negative energy and hinders the progress of the family. It's advised to discard the broken idols respectfully. People often dump broken idols and framed images of Gods and Goddesses mindlessly. They often throw or dump the damaged idols under the peepal tree or other trees which they consider auspicious. Or simply tossing it just anywhere is not appreciated. It is true that devotees have to dispose them off when damaged, but not good to discard them so disrespectfully. There are certain ways to dispose of such idols and images. The devotees should follow certain rituals before discarding them. You can immerse them in pond, river or sea. It has to be flowing water. The glass frames of photos can be disposed separately. Wrap the idol in new red cloth. Also offer prayers and some flowers along with it while immersing the idols/photos in water. Cracked Shivlingam however is never considered inauspicious and still can be worshipped.
