"How is it when a woman is looking to get married, she goes to the Shiva temple on monday? Is there some magic that happens? Why not any other day?"

I have usually been asked

"How is it when a woman is looking to get married, she goes to the Shiva temple on monday? Is there some magic that happens? Why not any other day?"

My reply was

There is no magic, but practicality.

If other parents or families know that single women looking for a husband go to Shiva's temple on monday, then any single woman seen in the temple on that day are the women who these families can now consider for their son. More often than not, in our Indian system, there will be a match maker in the area who looks at all the single women in the temple and would see who would be suitable for the single men looking to get married as well.

As I have stated to many of my friends, if you want to get married, then you will not really find your person of your dreams in a club or a bar. You can find them in your own social group, or through family and friends. What if your social group is limited, or your family and friends are not active in the social community? Shiva's temple becomes a wonderful opportunity.

The best part is, you also get to find a fellow spouse who is a Shiva devotee as well! By having that one common start, many commonalities can be discovered.
