News (30.09.2013) #DEHRADUN: The #Uttarakhand government has pushed back the resumption of the #Kedarnath Yatra by four days to time it with the start of the Navratri period. The yatra will now resume on October 5.

The decision was taken at a meeting of top government functionaries that was chaired by chief minister Vijay Bahuguna. It was decided that the Badrinath Yatra will also restart on Saturday. The decisions were taken after consulting Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) office-bearers led by its CEO B D Singh and chairman Ganesh Godiyal.

Bahuguna said the government decided to defer the Kedarnath Yatra since it wanted to resume it at the beginning of the auspicious Navratri period (October 5). "We were all set to restart the Kedarnath Yatra on Tuesday, but due to Navratri we had to postpone it," said Bahuguna.

Giving details about the yatra, the chief minister said not more than 100 devotees at a time will be allowed to trek up the recently rebuilt 28-km pedestrian track from Gaurikund to Kedarnath. While 100 pilgrims would be allowed to stay at Kedarnath, free-of-cost arrangements for 100 others would be made at Bheembali and Lencholi halting places on way to Kedarnath.
