Shiva and Shakti can be considered as a metaphor for union of the duality to represent the ultimate non-duality, creation of the universe. Mahayogi, the supreme power that has no beginning, no end. The Linga means, that in which this Jagat (world of change) attains Laya or mergence or dissolution. All forms merge in the Formless at last. Shiva is the Principle of Destruction of all names and forms, of all entities and individuals. So, the Linga is the simplest sign of emergence and mergence. Shiva Linga is not a phallic symbol.
