A trip to Nepal is not complete until you get a glimpse of the intriguing men known as Sadhus. The vast majority of Sadhus in India and Nepal are Yogis. Becoming a Sadhu is a difficult lifestyle. Sadhus are considered dead to themselves. They may even be required to attend their own funeral before they are able to seek out a guru and begin the process of transforming into a holy man. They dedicate their lives to achieving moksha, liberation. They do this through meditation and contemplating brahman. The word sadhu actually means “good man”, and these sadhus give up all material possessions and sexual attachments so that they may focus on their spiritual journey. Shivaratri is more fascinating festival towards people of Nepal. Aged people worship Shiva, take fast for their family happiness, whereas most of the young Nepali people by partaking of God’s sacred cannabis infused drink Bhang or smoking chillims of hashish. As Shiva is lord of Bhang, for people of Nepal Shivaratri is not complete without Bhang and other cannabis. People say its not legal to smoke weed in Nepal, but neither there are strong rules. But for Shivaratri, they smoke cannabis and There is one popular quote, “We are not smoking cannabis, we are just worshiping Shiva! The devotees consume ‘Bhang’ with the belief that it would help to concentrate in the worship of Lord Shiva. Sadhus sell these things in and around Pashupati Nath temple. ~ Boom Shankar!!
