Lord Shiva is fully worshiped only with his whole family

Photo: It is said that Lord Shiva is fully worshiped only with his whole family, and therefore we have some very fine family photographs in our heritage. This is a beautiful picture of the Holy Family. Its interesting to note that while pictures by North Indian painters depict Kartikeya as younger, the pictures by south indian artists generally show him as elder. Here Ganesh is shown as the elder, with a subtle indication: having gotten a hold of His Father's time keeping and rhythm setting Damaru. This means he is learning the spirituality of shivji, whereas kartikeya is shown as a little child asking for something and tugging at shivji's bag, perhaps for a toy!
But in the shiv purana the very reason for shiv parvati's marriage from the point of view of the devas, is so that their first born son Kartikeya would be born and defeat the demon Tarkasura. Accordingly he has a whole purana, the skanda purana on him. Sri krishna also honours him by saying says i am skanda among warriors.and Kartikeyaji is generally considered the elder child. Aum Namh Shivaya!
