Masula bids adieu to Lord Ganesha

Devotees in large numbers thronged the Manginapudi beach near Machilipatnam in Krishna District on Sunday and Monday to bid adieu to Lord Ganesha amid colourful celebrations. Giving a go-by to the environmentalists’ call to prefer clay idols as a gesture to keep beaches eco-friendly, the devout largely preferred idols made of Plaster of Paris. Among hundreds of idols immersed on both the days, one could not find even a single clay idol. As the sun went down, the only pristine beach was found littered with material used in Ganesh Puja and turned into a dumping yard. Text and photographs by T. Appala Naidu. (The Hindu)
