Even a casual hearing of Shiva Maha Purana absolves one of all sins.

Even a casual hearing of Shiva Maha Purana absolves one of all sins. Even more beneficial and auspicious is the Kailasha Samhita portion of this classic which reveals the hidden meaning of Pranava (OM), and as such it is an illuminating form in itself.” "Only the Lord Himself completely knows all that is hidden in the Kailasa Samhita. Whoever studies it and understands it instantly achieves chitta shuddhi (pure mental faculties that resemble a clear lake in which the sun’s reflection is clearly seen). With the Rudra Samhita, there is not a sin in the world that cannot be washed away. Shiva Himself extracted the nectar of knowledge after churning the Upanishads (essence of Vedas) and passed it to His son Kumaraswami (Kartikeya). Whoever obtains that very nectar becomes immortal. To be rid of the worst sins committed against the virtuous, a daily study or listening to the Rudra Samhita is advised. Bad vibrations and other ill effects caused by accepting donations, meals from evil-doers and shameful conversations can be offset by mere one repetition of the Rudra Samhita. There is no telling how much beneficial it is to study the Rudra Samhita in a garden of bilva trees in the compound of a Shiva temple. If Shraadh (rituals for ancestors) involves feeding Brahmins (the spiritual and the pious) while reciting the Rudra Samhita, the ancestors will surely ascend to Shiva’s abode. Whoever studies the Rudra Samhita at the base of the bilva tree on the fourteenth day of the moon is worthy of worship by divine beings. All samhita (works) included in this classic grant fulfillment of desired objectives. Since these two samhita - Kailash Samhita and Rudra Samhita highlight the knowledge and mysteries of Shiva, they are to be considered the most important.”
