Durga is the energy aspect of Shiva. Without Durga, Shiva has no expression. And without Shiva, Durga has no existence. Shiva is only the silent witness. He is motionless and absolutely changeless. It is Maa who is doer of all actions. Shiva and Durga are twofold personalisation of Brahman. Like Shiva, Mother Durga is referred to as "Triyambake" meaning the three eyed Goddess. She is called Triyambake Gauri. The left eye represents desire (the moon), the right eye represents action (the sun), and the central eye knowledge (fire), besides the past, present and future meaning that she is the ruler of the worlds and the one who is timelessly eternal. The ten arms of Durga protects her devotees from all directions namely the eight corners and from the sky and the earth. The ten hands of Durga hold in them a conch, discuss, lotus, sword, bow with arrow, trishul, mace, thunderbolt, snake and flame.
Mother Durga indicates the confluence of the power of all gods and goddesses. Durga emanated in response to the prayers of humans and gods to put an end to the vicious and deadly demons. She waged a war against the evil forces and vanquished them saving the worlds from their troubles. Thus, the form of Durga assures protection and safety to the devotees. Durga is ferocious to the demons and at the same time highly kind to her devotees.
The literal meaning of the word Durga is a fort. The significance of this title to Mother goddess indicates that she protects her devotees like the fort protects an empire. A praise addressing Durga says, “Durga Durgati Nashini”, meaning The one who eliminates sufferings and put an end to all misfortunes. Thus mother Durga has become a very famous form of worship for her devotees because she protects her devotees by removing their miseries.!! đŸ‘
Jai Maa Durga ~ Jai Triyambake Gauri!
