Meaning of Lord Shiva Damaru :- What is the meaning of Lord Shiva’s damru? Hindu God Shiva is always seen with a Damaru or small drum. It is one of the important attributes of Lord Shiva. Damaru is a small drum shaped like an hourglass. The two sides of the damaru is separated with a thin neck like structure structure symbolizes the two utterly dissimilar states of existence, unmanifest and manifest. The sound of Shiva's two sided damaru maintains the rhythm of the heartbeat and creates the cosmic sound of Om.
In Nataraja form, Mahadev is seen dancing performing Shiva Tananda holding damaru in his upper right hand. A specific mudra or hand gesture called Damaru Hasta is used to hold the drum. In Hinduism, Nada is considered as the source of creation. Vibrating the damru creates the sound which symbolises Nada, the sound of Om.
