Shiva is not the destroyer of world, he is the destroyer of the impurity.

Shiva is not the destroyer of world, he is the destroyer of the impurity. He is the purifier of the world. He is the origin of Consciousness. Even the worst kind of energies gets purified with his grace. That's the reason he is worshipped by all being whether Gods or Demons.
There has been a huge tradition of pouring water/ milk on the Shivling. We all do, but no one exactly knows why? There has been a lot of criticism also that it is a waste of resources. Most of the original Hindu traditions have some solid scientific reason behind.
1) Where ever Shivling is established and worshipped, it cleans the whole atmosphere. The bad energy in the atmosphere travels through the Shivling and gets cleaned. The energy is hot. When the energy becomes dirty, it becomes more hot. When these hot energies are continuously passing through the Shivling, it becomes hot, so we need to continuously keep pouring the water to keep it cool. When the Shivling is cool, it is more effective doing its work of purification. This gives way to bringing more light of consciousness to micro (individual) and macro (earth) levels.
If our head is hot, Our brain will not work properly, and it will over the period give way to the diseases. It is only with a cool head we can take proper decisions.
2) Karma: All our karma are stored in Swadhishistan Chakra, which is the water element chakra. Any bad karma a person does effects the water element of the body. Water absorbs the bad energy of that karma. In turn, it is the water element which has the strongest influence on the person's life, health, wealth, spirituality etc. It is of prime importance that water element needs to be cleaned
When water is poured on Shivling, which has the purification light of Shiva, the water element inside our body gets purified resulting in upliftment of mind, body and soul.
3) Our body is made of five elements Ether, air, fire, water, and earth. Various chakras in our body regulate these elements inside. These five elements needs to be in proper balance for a healthy mind body and soul.
The water element is for worldly desires which is regulated by "Swadhisthana Chakra" in our abdomen. The earth element is represented by the Mooladhar Chakra at the crotch. This chakra is responsible for our physical body. There is another most important Chakra at our forehead which is "Aagya Chakra". This is the place where our two most important nadis Ida and Pingala meet, and is the place of Shiva. The upper top portion of our head (from the top to the middle of the nose) should be considered as main place of Shiva in our body. This is the place where our brain is, and which controls the whole body. Aagya Chakra is the main seat of Shiva and the entrance to the Sahasrar Chakra. Sahasrar Chakra is in the head where the treasure of pleasure is there.
In leading our lives with all the desires, stress, illness, etc and other ageing factors these five elements go out of balance. The flow of Light of Consciousness and Shakti reduces a lot resulting in decay of our brain and body. When we pour water at the Shivling while remembering Shiva, in a subtle way we take our water element which is dirty and pour it on Shiva in our Aagya Chakra. Water element inside us encompasses our energies in it. These two important chakra are directly connected. When water is being poured on Shivlinga, we have two things in our mind, water and Shiva. Though we are worshipping Shiva at a physical level, but in effect we are worshipping him inside at a subtle level. The moment we think Shiva with water combination, water element energy starts going up towards Shiva in Aagya Chakra. As a result of this upward energy movement, our thinking purifies and gets an uplift. Now after water is poured, it comes down and goes to the earth element in physical Shivling and at the same time in Mooladhar Chakra at the subtle level in our physical body. When the purified water with Shiva energy comes back and washes the Mooladhar Chakra or Earth element it cools down and gives purified energy and light of consciousness to that chakra. This results in good mental and physical health.
We can now see how pouring water on Shivling is connected to the purification of physical level and soul level. It purifies the earth, it purifies the body, it purifies the thinking. It is all pure science of subtle energies.
