THE BRANCHES OF ONE TREE:
Lord Shiva is always in meditation. But around Shivratri, this intensifies. Also Millions of His Sadhus, Jogis, Bhaktas , Nagas and Aghoras are also in Dhyana, this makes the vibrations very high and subtle.Therefore whatever one does according to His/her faith, bears fruit quickly.
Note that in this painting, the artist has made his jata(hair) like the branches of a tree. In fact, shaiva folklore says that the entire Universe is like the evolute of Shivji's matty Hair.He is said to have picked a bucket of cosmic energy in liquid form and bathed His hair with it, now wherever the waters flowed , sprang tribes of people. similarly, when we try to trace our way back to our origin, the shaivas sing that we will finally go back to the "sirra" (head) which is, of course, Shvji !!!
