Shiva is a paradoxical deity: "both the destroyer and the restorer, the great ascetic and the symbol of sensuality, the benevolent herdsman of souls and the wrathful avenger." In the most famous legend of Shiva, he saves humanity by holding in his throat the poison that churned up in the waters and threatened mankind. For this reason he is often depicted with a blue neck.
Number 3 and Shiva have a strong connection. No, I am not talking about numerology. Shiva carries a trident which represents three gunas - Sattva, Rajas and Tamas.
Three horizontal lines of bhasma on his forehead also known as Shiva’s tilak which wore more often by Shaivaites represents the three sources of light – Sun, Moon and Fire.
Shiva has three eyes, third eye represents inner eyes of soul that controls the heart and wisdom. Also called the spiritual eye or eye to an inner consciousness , it allows us to see the real world for world as we see it is an illusion. It is also supposed to carry the wrath of Shiva and has ability to burn anyone to ashes. In one of the stories from Shiva Purana, it is mentioned that Kamadeva, the God of creation was once burned by his third eye to ashes for interfering in Shiva’s meditation.
Shiva wears snake as necklace with three folds representing past, present and future. 👁🔱🐍💀🌙🐚
Hari Om Tat Sat ~ Jai Trishuldhari ~ Jai Tryambaka Deva! Shubh Ratri !! 🙏🏻❤️
