Lord Hanuman is a great devotee of Lord Rama and an influential character in the Ramayana. He is a manifestation or Ansh avatar of Lord Shiva and had dedicated his life to the restoration of Dharma on Earth. There were many incidents involving Lord Hanuman that have proved his greatness. His main purpose was to help Lord Rama defeat Ravana and rescue Sita.
Known for his bravery and strength, Hanuman ji overcame all his enemies. One story that is famous in the Ramayana is the ‘burning of Lanka by Hanuman’s tail’. This incident was crucial in Lord Rama declaring war on Lanka and Ravana.
After Maa Sita was abducted by Ravana, Lord Rama sent Hanuman to look for her. On his way Hanuman met Sampati, the brother of Jatayu who was murdered by Ravana. Sampati told him that Maa Sita was held captive at Ashok vatika in Lanka. Hanuman ji went to meet Ravana to ask him to release Maa Sita. Ravana did not offer a seat to Hanuman. Instead of feeling insulted, Hanuman made a seat from his long tail and sat on it. This enraged Ravana who was angered by Hanuman’s behavior.
Ravana ordered his slaves to set fire to Hanuman’s tail. When they did that, Hanuman’s tail became longer and longer. Everyone was surprised by this and Hanuman flew away from them. With his tail on fire, Hanuman jumped from building to building, setting them all on fire. Soon the whole of Lanka was burning and people were terrified. Sit came to know about this and prayed to Lord Agni. Lord Agni made sure that even if Hanuman’s tail was burning, he wouldn’t feel any pain. Worrying that the fire would harm Sita, Hanuman ji visited Ashokvatika and saw that she was unharmed. Then he went back to Lord Rama, who then was convinced that he would wage war on Lanka to free Sita.! πŸ”₯πŸ’πŸ”₯
