Maa Lakshmi is the Hindu Goddess who governs all form of success and wealth and the paths, means, and results of all forms of abundance and prosperity. The Goddess embodies peace, sublime beauty, siddhi, balance, strength, auspiciousness, and wisdom. She is called Thirumagal or Sri because the Goddess is endowed with 6 divines and auspicious strengths.
The Sanskrit word ”Lakshmi” is derived from the word ”Laksme,” representing “goal.” Therefore, the Goddess represents the goal of life, which includes worldly as well as spiritual abundance and prosperity.
Goddess Lakshmi is mentioned in Rigveda, but the context suggests that the word does not mean goddess of fortune and wealth, rather it represents kindred mark or sign of auspicious fortune.
She is usually illustrated standing or sitting on a lotus with golden coins abounding in an endless stream from one of Her hands, symbolic of when the lotus of wisdom blossoms, the wealth, and abundance of good and noble traits appears and Goddess Lakshmi’s blessings are present. She is occasionally shown with 1 or 2 elephants and commonly with an owl. Elephants represent activity, work, and strength, as well as water, rain, and fertility for abundant wealth and prosperity.
