“Father, do we not believe in Lord Shiva?” asked Parvati, sitting in Himavat’s lap
“Why, of course we do my dearest girl”
“Then why don’t we have a shivlinga like Sristi Ishwar Maharaj in Kankhal?” asked Parvati
“ Oh, I see what you are getting at.It’s because all these mountains are like shivlingas themselves, it’s because Shiva Himself used to live here, in Kailash”
“Used to? He’s not in Kailash now?”
“No, He is not in Kailash now, but..”
“But what father? If He is not in Kailash, I don’t want to console myself by thinking the mountains are shivlingas. I want a shivlinga of my own”
“But Sire”, interrupted the chief priest , who was also present in the chamber, “it is not prescribed for children..”
“”Why not?” asked Parvati
“Oh my princess, it’s because little children would not know the right way to worship, and Shiva may then feel neglected and annoyed”
“ I shall not let Shiva feel neglected” said Parvati,” this I swear.
Himavat smiled.
“Alight then, I think it is time we allowed princess Parvati to see the old mountain shivlinga” smiled Himavat.
“An old mountain shivlinga? Oh Yes father ,I want to see.I want to see it right now!”
“Not right now.In the morning. You will wake up early, freshen up, and we will leave before sunrise” said Himavat
“Oh yes father, I will wake up early tomorrow”
Parvati did not sleep all night
“Why, of course we do my dearest girl”
“Then why don’t we have a shivlinga like Sristi Ishwar Maharaj in Kankhal?” asked Parvati

“Place this bilva leaf over the top of the shivlinga”said the priest. Himavat gently placed a leaf over the shivlinga and Parvati followed suit with her tender hands.The leaf slipped from the top and came to rest at the centre.The priest was about to pick it up and put it back when he noticed something amazing:The leaf had slid and come to such a strategic point, it started looking like the eyes and lips of the shivlinga. The next words that the priest said, were to be forever etched into Parvati’s soul,“You have made Shiva come alive”
