Why is Trayodashi Fast so Auspicious

*Why is Trayodashi Fast so Auspicious *
Trayodashi ( 13th date according to Hindu calender) is a very auspicious day for the Hindu Shaivas, they keep fast on this day, each fast has a story related to it, this page is dedicated to Lord Shiv
Many years ago, the great Brahma and Vishnu were in an intense debate. Each of them felt that they were the greatest. Apparently, there was no end to this argument so the supreme Mahesh stepped in and put Brahma and Vishnu into trial. A great pillar of fire emerged from heaven. Mahesh instructed them to distinguish the starting and ending point of the pillar. After much struggle, Brahma and Vishnu submitted themselves to Lord Shiva as they were unsuccessful and consented that he was indeed the greatest of them all. Some books relate the pillar of fire to a huge Linga. Hence, from here we get the concept of Sivalinga.
For keeping the fast of Trayodashi, one should not eat cereals during the day time .When evening approaches one should take a bath and purify himself and pray to Lord Shiv.Meditate upon him, and should pray in his mind , '' Oh Lord , please be pleased with me. Please come along with Godess Paarvati and accept my worship''.Hence one should offer a bath of the shivlingam, and offer flowers and the leaves of Bela tree to the Lord.
Pradosh fast is very auspicious .One can attain whatever he/ she wishes for by keeping this fast. All the unfortunate things and difficulities in one's life are removed by keeping this fast.
