Varanasi/ Hyderabad, April 04 (ANI): Devotees across India took part in festivities to mark the birth anniversary of Lord Hanuman on Saturday. The festival, known as 'Hanuman Jayanti' is marked by recitation of hymns from 'Hanuman Chalisa' in praise of Hanuman and offering flowers and sweets at temples. In Varanasi, thousands of devotees took out a procession to celebrate the day. On this day, Bhandaras (community kitchens) are also organized. The festival is celebrated every year on the occasion of "Chaitra Poornima", observed on the full moon day in the month of Chaitra that usually falls in the months of late March or early April. A similar procession was organized in Hyderabad also, where hundreds of thousands of devotees took part. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his greetings to the people on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti. "Greetings on Hanuman Jayanti", the Prime Minister said on Twitter.
