Shivalinga in Santaneshwor Temple, Kathmandu Valley, Nepal. It is believed that the people who do not have their children, once they please Shiva at Santaneshwor Mahadev Temple then their lap would not get barren. According to the holy book of Hindus “Shree Swasthani Brata Katha”, which is a very popular ritual observed in Nepal. According to THIS BOOK, when Sati immolated herself, furious Shiva carried her body clasped tightly to his heart. The other gods followed not knowing how to help restore him to sanity. They tried mantras, chanting, even tricks, jokes, and dancing. The Gods then called upon Lord Vishnu to return Shiva to sanity. Sri Vishnu used his Sudarshana Chakra to cut Sati's lifeless body into 52 pieces which fell on earth at various places. These 52 places are called Shakti Peethas, and became places of pilgrimage. As it is believed that the some parts were fallen on the top of the hill, where Santaneshwor Mahadev is located today. Thus the name of the temple was given a name Santaneshwor, means boon for having a baby. Santaneshwor Mahadev Temple is one of the famous Hindu religious place located at the south-east of Kathmandu Valley. A huge masses of Hindu followers can be seen in the special occasions of “Ekadasi”, “Maha Shivaratri”, “Teej”, “Bada Dashain”, and other Hindu festivals.
