Lord Shiva and parvati ji as Ardhanareshwar.

Photo: Lord Shiva and parvati ji as Ardhanareshwar.
One of Shivji's marks is the Cobra. Always seen embracing his neck as a garland, to the extent Shivji is called Bhujgendra haaram, The one who wears the cobra as adornment. The cobra has a very special significance in spiritual symbolism: It denotes the inner spiritual energy, called Kundalini. This kundalini is normally asleep, dormant, and therefore man does not remember His own divinity. But, once it is awakened by devotion, meditation, or by the gentle prod of the Guru, like a snake charmer putting the stick to the snake, it rushes up from its cosy basket and ascends to meet Shiva Himself at the top of the world, at the crown of the head, Yogis call this sahasrara -the thousand petalled lotus. And this meeting of the 'small' self with the 'Big Self" is what we call enlightenment, Atma Bodh, Self realisation!!
(shail gulhati)

Thus, in this picture, The Naga Devatas-cobras on Both sides indicate that the spiritual energy of Both shivji and parvati ji is supreme and has blossomed to the pinnacle. The Cobras coming out of their homes, indicates that the spiritual arousal is taking place in the whole world due to the Grace of Shivji who is the supreme Guru and kind by Nature:He is the One who shares spirituality with all unconditionally, and without extracting costs. Aum, Namah Shivaya!
