How to meditate
How to meditate
Select a clean place or room where there is peace and no distractions. You can choose to sit on a chair, the bed or floor, depending upon your comfort. If you wish, you may spread a blanket and sit on it. You can sit easy or cross-legged. Your back and neck should be straight, but relaxed. If you prefer, you may even meditate lying on the bed.
Firstly, close your eyes and watch your mind. You will find that your mind has started wandering in the past or the future, weighing your achievements and losses. As you become aware of it, your mind will start to slow down. Now make an auto-suggestion to your mind that there is nothing to achieve or lose in this world, as one side of a duality will always be equal to another. For instance, profit-loss, good-evil, life-death, positive-negative, etc., shall always be equal to the other, like two sides of a coin.
In other words, all situations in life have equal amount of gain or loss, and hence, none is better than the other. Keep on repeating these suggestions to yourself at regular intervals.
After sometime, you will notice that your mind has ceased to wander in the future or the past and has settled down in the present.
Once you are able to hold your mind in the present for a certain period of time, you will experience emotions like love, joy, happiness, sorrow, loneliness, etc. or may see a pure white light filling the universe or you may recall some beautiful music.
You should watch these experiences without any attachment or aversion and keep reminding yourself that there is nothing to achieve or lose in this world as your gain and loss shall always be equal to each other in all situations till you attain the state of ultimate peace or bliss.
This is the ultimate meditation.
Om Namah Shivay.
