The presence of a National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team has helped in tightening security at Sabarimala.
The NDRF team, from Arakkonam in Tamil Nadu, was deployed at the Sannidhanam from the beginning of the Mandalam-Makaravilakku festival.
The NDRF team at Sabarimala is equipped with various kinds of rescue equipment for use in the event of a stampede, collapse of buildings, explosion, etc.
The team has basic breathing apparatus to enter collapsed buildings and ventilator to clear dust and provide aeration.
Besides providing Medical First Response (MFR), it has a specialised rope rescue team.
Aska lamps
The team has also brought six Aska lamps, inflatable tower lights, to meet emergency situations in the event of a power failure.
NDRF teams attached to different units across the country were also engaged in community awareness programmes on various aspects of disaster management.
The NDRF will stay back at Sabarimala till January 20.
