SABARIMALA: Devaswom and Health Minister V S Sivakumar has said that the normal supply of aravana prasadam would be available to pilgrims during the Makaravilakku season beginning on December 30.
Addressing mediapersons on Wednesday, Sivakumar said that the shortage in aravana availability could be resolved through the manual production method. The Minister said with the installation of the traditional method, 40,000 more aravana containers could be manufactured in a day. With the mechanised production of aravana of 1.30 lakh containers a day, the shortage could be met in the Makaravilakku season, Sivakumar said.
The Minister said that the restrictions on aravana sale will be relaxed and supply increased to five containers with effect from Wednesday from four. He said the restrictions on the sale will be relaxed further in the coming days when the buffer stock of aravana improves.
Sivakumar said that necessary measures will be initiated to increase the number of pilgrims climbing the Holy Steps to 90 to 100 per minute, from the present 60 pilgrims. Instructions will be given to deploy police personnel to achieve the increased flow of pilgrims through the Holy Steps, Sivakumar added.
The Minister said directives were given to set up more number of water taps and installation of new ones replacing the damaged ones. The Minister said instructions were given for the installation of a generator at the Sannidhanam Government Hospital.
The Minister said the Sannidhanam sewage treatment plant with a capacity of five million litres per day will be commissioned next March. Though the first phase of the plant was scheduled to be completed during the ongoing season, the four-month delay in the civil work affected the commissioning, he said.
The Minister said a high-level review meeting chaired by the Chief Minister will be held in Thiruvananthapuram to review preparations for the upcoming Makaravilakku season.
He added that the projects to be implemented during the 2015-2016 pilgrimage season will be announced at a Sabarimala high-powered meeting to be held in Thiruvananthapuram on January 17. Travancore Devaswom Board president M P Govindan Nair and Sabarimala Devaswom executive officer V S Jayakumar were present at the news conference. -newindianexpress
