The Temple Committee had participated in an auction conducted by Karnataka Govt. Forestry Department for the ‘palurup wood’, which was required for our temple restoration works. The auction was initially scheduled for May but was postponed and delayed due to the state elections and eventually was held from 3 June to 6 June 2013. We were a successful bidder at the auction.
Arrangements have now been made to transport the sourced wood to a Mill using two lorries sometime this week.
The newly sourced wood will be cut up to the required sizes at the Mill and if there is any shortfall in the wood requirement, we would need to make a fresh purchase. However, we will only know the status once this sourced wood is cut up to the required sizes.
The purchase price of the wood we obtained from Mangalore is very much cheaper compared to the wood if sourced around Kannur. Moreover, the forest wood at Mangalore is estimated to be in the region of 100 years old; which means that using this aged wood should give a longer life span.
Masonry works has been in progress for almost a month. The sizing of the stones are been conducted and undertaken by three workers. As the work-in-progress on the chuttambalam is seen to be extremely slow, we have asked Pavithran Mason to provide us with two additional workers to expedite the work. We are facing problems in obtaining these skill workers due to on-going construction works at nearby temples where restoration works are also in progress.
Once the sized wood is delivered at our Temple, the carpenter will commence work which is expected to be in a month's time since he is currently working at a nearby temple's ‘Sreekovil’ works.
Two ‘kattilas’ made of stone have been ordered from Ottapalam ( Palakkad district).
Sand, stone, wood, kattila required for the temple are already available at our Temple. Works are in progress but it lacks the expected speed. However, we need to appreciate the dedication made by these skill workers and any attempt to expedite their work would not be advisable. We must be appreciative that our temple restoration works carried out are much better and faster than some of the nearby temples.
Praveen,
Chairman, Temple Committee
