So, he decided to fulfill their desire and told them, dig a great hole on earth and I will fill that with water, which could not be empty. So, Gautam Muni and his Disciples dug a trough on earth and then Lord Varun filled that with water. Then the famina was fall off and they started the farming.
One day the Gautam Muni need water and called his disciple for carry water. His disciple gone for water but he had taken some more time. Muni’s wives reach their home and said to their husbands that Ahilya and her disciple abused to us and they refused to take water from that trough. They also determined to teach a lesson to Gautam Muni and his favorers.
All Muni were gathered there and decided to penance for Lord Ganesh. After a while Lord Ganesh appeared and asked their desire. They replied that Gautam Muni and his favorer abused us and beat our sons and disciples, so we want to revenge and that was our objective to penance you let him suffer. Lord Ganesh was unhappy and told them that you all are foolish and you will have to suffer the brunt. Lord Ganesh explained but they were still and at last Lord Ganesh said “Tathastu”.
One Day at Morning, Gautam muni saw that one caw variable the crops and he want to run away from farm but the caw was died. Other saints saw that happening and try to run away Gautam Muni and his favorer and told that Gautam muni has cow killing, which will see him take that sin. Gautam Muni, Ahilya and his disciples was very sad. Gautam Rishi, therefore, worshipped Lord Shiva to bring the Ganga down to his hermitage to purify the premises. Pleased with devotion, Shiva requested Ganga (Bhagirathi) to flow down and make Sage Gautam pure. After that Ganga flowed down. Lord Shiva told Ganga to stay there eternally for the good of everyone. All the Gods started singing the praises of Gautam Rishi, Ganga and Lord Shiva. On the request of all the Gods, Lord Shiva resided by the river Gautami by the name Trimbakeshwar (one of the Jyotirlingas). Hindus believe that Trimbak Jyotirlinga is one, which fulfills everyone’s desires. It emancipates all from their sins and miseries.
