Lord Shiva is a personification of the reality presented in the Shaivite philosophy.

Lord Shiva is a personification of the reality presented in the Shaivite philosophy. The philosophy is quite large and multi sectoral in the concepts being discussed. It has presented a new way to look at things we consider taboo, it has presented a new way to look at things we find ourselves averse to.

More importantly,

Shaivism philosophy is about meditation, and discovery. Shaivism is enlightenment.

Buddhism is a branch of Hinduism; while Hinduism is a general and larger scale philosophy/religion. Shaivism is a large part.

While Shaivism is part of Hinduism, Shaivism is also independent of Hinduism. In its very core, Shaivism can stand alone because of its vastness and depth. Shaivism as a philosophy is not dependent on rituals and traditions, although it will espouse their benefits to those who wish to consider. As stated, it is not required, but it will present why it is good.

Shaivism has no imposition in morality or anything. Shaivites who understand the philosophy understand that every action has its own consequence, and we are liable to the consequence of our action; as such, Shaivites too understand our connection to the universe, and how this connection brings forth the greatest paradox to the general public; the ability to detach from everything, while being compassionate.

Shaivites are not affected by the negativity surrounding them. Shaivites are able to do this because rather than running away or being repulsed by what others see as negative, Shaivites embrace and understand the reality.

Rather than be scared of death, Shaivites embrace the concept. The same thing goes with love making, emotions, and many other things. We do not fear them, we understand them.

One who looks at the different artistic depictions of Lord Shiva will understand the beauty expressed by the symbolic presentations. If anything, Shaivism is the most beautiful expression of reality, and the most poetic explanation of life.
