This World Is A Long Dream

Photo: This World Is A Long Dream :

Nothing appears as a great thing. Non-eternal things appear as eternal things. This impure body is mistaken for the pure Self. Pain is mistaken for pleasure.

An insentient article is mistaken for sentient Self. People die for shadowy toys of name and fame.... They walk self-deluded in this world. This is due to the power of maya. Maya’s charm is irresistible. In the Gita you will find: “Nor am I of all discovered, enveloped in My creative illusion. This deluded world knoweth Me not, the unborn, the imperishable. By delusion of the pairs of opposites, sprung from attraction and repulsion, O Bharata, all beings walk in this universe totally deluded. This divine illusion of mine, caused by qualities, is hard to pierce; they who come to me cross over this illusion.”

Outgoing Tendencies

Mithya drishti, the vision that this world is unreal induces vairagya or dispassion and abstraction of indriyas and causes destruction of vasanas. It checks the outgoing tendencies of the mind and turns the mind inwards. Whenever your mind is much troubled, give the suggestion to the mind: “O mind! Why do you bother yourself much? This world is a long dream. Think of immortal atman, the source of everything.” You will feel great relief and joy immediately.

Om Namah Shivay.
