Haridwar, Hari Ka Dwar ~ Abode of Shri Vishnu. Legend has it that Lord Shiva and Shri Vishnu himself set their foot on this sacred place. Lord Vishnu is believed to have ascended first in the world in Har Ki Pauri from which the Ghat gets its name. These are the foot marks of Shri Vishnu, worshiped on the banks of the Ganges in a temple that has become the most important landmark of Haridwar. Brahma Kund, the spot where the Amrit fell, is located at Har ki Pauri, literally, "footsteps of Vishnu, and is considered to be the most sacred ghat of Haridwar.
