When we look at Vedic hymns and scripts from long Hindu tradition, amongst many gods and devas, Shiva at that time was known as a god who had no interest in mingling with society. All he wanted was to stay detached from the world, lost in his meditation on the mount Kailash, the kingdom of Shiva. Shiva is deeply associated with the Himalayas, Shiva Maha Purana refers to it as “the abode of Shiva”.
Lord Shiva feels at home at the Himalayan peak which is quiet and peaceful. Shiva can meditate in the Himalayas without being disturbed by human needs and desires. The Himalayan mountains are the only place for Shiva where he can meditate so he can achieve the highest of all goals, Moksha. Even the gods are afraid to disturb him while he is meditating. When the daughter of Himalayas – Parvati tries to win Shiva engrossed in meditation, Indra assigns the task of breaking Shivas meditation to Kamadeva.
So Kama shoots the love arrow at Shiva. Furious Shiva opens his third eye and incinerated Kamadeva who is instantaneously turned into ashes. Himalayas is the place where Shiva rejects the worldly desires and focus on higher goals. The Himalaya is the place where Shiva accumulates his Inner strength through tapas. So when you get a chance to enter the highest ridge in the world ready to hike, remember that this is the abode of Shiva and he doesn’t like to be disturbed!! 👁🗻🕉🌀🏔🎨🙏🏻
