News (14.08.2013) #SRINAGAR: Pilgrimage to Holy Amarnath cave shrine in south #Kashmir Himalayas from Baltal and Nunwan Pahalgam base camps remained suspended for the second day today due to heavy rains.

Due to heavy rains since yesterday, the shortest Baltal and traditional Nunwan Pahalgam tracks have become slippery following which the pilgrimage has been stopped, a yatra official said.

He said pilgrims, who had left the base camps yesterday morning, were asked to remain in halting stations till further orders.

Similarly the pilgrims, who had left the cave shrine for base camps yesterday, were also asked to remain in halting station till they are allowed to proceed towards Baltal or Pahalgam.

He said no pilgrim was allowed from Baltal or Nunwan Pahalgam base camps this morning because of continued rains.

The yatris, stranded at several halting stations, will be allowed to move only when the weather is favourable and both the tracks become safe for undertaking the foot journey.

More than 3.51 lakh pilgrims had so far paid obeisance at the cave shrine since the commencement of the 55-day-long annual yatra from June 28.

The yatra will conclude on August 21 on Rakshabandan day when the Chhari-Mubarak will be taken inside the cave shrine for final puja of 2013.
