Mallikarjuna Temple at Hirenallur is a Hoysala era construction.
Mallikarjuna Temple at Hirenallur is a Hoysala era construction. Hirenallur is a village, about 12 km from Kadur, Chikkamagaluru district, Karnataka. The temple is believed to have been built initially by the Gangas during the 8th century according to an inscription recently found here. Temple has three shrines. One of the shrine has Mallikarjuna swamy (Shiva) and other shrine HAD Nandi. In connecting place of all the three shrine is a small well. There was a Shiva Bhakt in this village who used to offer her prayers to Mallikarjunaswamy( Shiva ) every day with all her devotion. But She used to be beaten every day by her drunkard husband. One day she jumped into the well inside temple. And Nandi who used to be in one of the shrine came and sat on this well. If any hard object like a stone dropped inside Nandi's ear canal would go and fall inside the well and will be able to hear water splash. (Now ear canal has been blocked by temple authorities) Shivoham _/\_ Jai Mallikarjuna _/\_ Om Nandishwaraya Namah!
