Shiva devotees throng temples



KANPUR: Devotees in large numbers braved the scorching sun to throng various Shiv temples of the city on the third Monday of the holy Shravan month. People observed fasts and performed charity to mark the occasion.
Devotees in a large number offered milk to Lord Shiva, along with belpatra, dhatura and other wild fruits. In addition to religious tradition of observing fast, ardent devotees observed other rituals including 'Rudraabhishek', chanting 'Maha Mrityunjay Jaap'and various other mantras.
Security at temples was beefed up to meet the huge rush on Monday. Closed circuit cameras were installed at the entrance gate of renowned temples like Parmath and Kherepati.
"Once you offer prayers to Lord Shiva on the auspicious day, sins committed in the past are washed away," said Puja, a devotee, who walked more than 3 kilometres braving the sun to offer prayers at a Lord Shiva temple on the banks of GangaAnother devotee Vishal Malhotra said Lord Shiva is associated with power and subdues the effect of all evils. It is through his divine blessings that one can attain peace, health and joy. -timesofindia
